My Top Tips For Planning A Holiday Launch Or Promotion
As the holiday season quickly approaches, businesses are gearing up for one of the most lucrative times of the year.
And as an online business owner yourself, YOU have the chance to jump into that mix and experience some major results of your own.
But here’s the thing: you don’t want to be seen as just another person selling something.
EVERYONE is selling something this time of year!
So the key is making sure that your offer grabs the attention of your audience and stands out in a way that draws in real buyers.
Crafting a successful holiday promotion requires more than just tinsel and catchy phrases. It demands strategic planning, a deep understanding of your audience, and of course creativity.
As a launch copywriter specializing in helping entrepreneurs navigate the maze of online business, over the years I’ve learned what works and what doesn’t.
So, if you’re planning a holiday promotion for Black Friday, during the month of December, or even in the new year, these tips are for you!
Do Holiday Sales Really Work?
Before I get into my best tips and tricks for planning a holiday launch, let’s talk about the question you might be wondering…
“Do holiday sales and promotions really work?”
“Is it worth the time and effort to plan a holiday launch?”
Whether or not you want to put in the work to plan for a launch around the holidays is a decision you 100% have to decide for yourself, but as far as them “working,” I’ve got some stats to back that up.
In 2022, U.S. online retail consumers spent a record of $9.2 billion on Black Friday. (Source: Adobe)
In that same year, 87.2 million U.S. consumers shopped online on Black Friday. (Source: Queue It)
The average American plans to spend $500 between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. (Source: Exploding Topics)
These stats alone make it clear that people do a lot of shopping around the holidays.
Even without these stats considered, it’s naturally the time of year people will be doing more buying.
Whether it’s for holiday gifts, items to prepare for their new year goals, or even just something to treat themselves, people are typically spending more money this time of year.
Businesses all across the world know this which is why almost everyone opts to jump into the holiday sale season.
But remember: just because everyone is doing something doesn’t mean you should too.
There’s a few things to consider before deciding to launch or run a promotion in November, December, or even January as an online business owner.
So, let’s get into those tips.
My Top Tips For Planning a Holiday Launch or Promotion
First things first, you want to ask yourself, “does it make sense?”
Does it make sense for you to launch something new or promote an offer during the holiday season?
Is there a justifiable reason for it?
Here’s what I mean by that: you want your offer to provide a solution that makes sense for someone in that moment.
Now, does every offer on the market during the holiday season make sense for that time of year? Of course not.
But the ones that DO, stand out more.
For example, this year I’m launching a Black Friday Funnel Bundle (spoiler alert!) and the REASON I’m doing it this time of year is so that people can build a proper email funnel – complete with a lead magnet, welcome sequence, weekly email structures, AND a sales page – all before the new year begins.
A project like that is typically something that business owners have on their to-do list for a longgg time and never get around to it, so I’ve made it simple with a one stop shop style offer so they can do it with ease!
(P.S. If you’re interested in that bundle, it’ll only be offered November 21 – 27, so stay tuned!)
If you have a solid reason for launching or promoting an offer during the holiday season, I want you to be strategic with how you do it.
When it comes to launching or promoting an offer during the holiday season, there are a LOT of different ways you can do it.
But something important to remember is that buyers are typically looking for a deal this time of year, so it’s wise to offer a discount or free shipping OR add extra value that you typically don’t include with regular purchases.
Similar to my Black Friday Bundle that I mentioned above, you can add extra bonuses or bundle existing offers, so that it feels exclusive to this specific promotion.
After you’ve decided what type of promotion you’re going to run, consider how you can differentiate your offer even more.
For this part of the puzzle, consider why someone should buy from YOU.
As we’ve already established, there are tons of people offering holiday sales and promotions right alongside you, so why should someone choose your offer over someone else’s?
A few ways to differentiate your offer could be: donate a percent of your sales to charity, offer a gift service, give referral awards, or offer a bespoke service that you don’t normally provide.
Finally, once you have all of those things figured out, then it’s time to tell your audience that something is coming.
For those who plan to shop during November and December, they are doing their research long before the holidays actually get here, which is why you want to strategically tease your offer through your content before your launch begins.
When you prepare your audience well, when you announce your offer, they’ll be ready to buy.
